The Association for Behavior Analysis International® (ABAI) is a nonprofit membership organization with the mission to contribute to the well-being of society by developing, enhancing, and supporting the growth and vitality of the science of behavior analysis through research, education, and practice.

Tiered Model of Education 

 

Recognized Programs

The ABAI-recognized programs have undergone a rigorous process of review and successfully met the ABAI Tiered Model recognition standards. Recognition granted to a program does not extend to all campuses or formats where that degree or program is offered. Some institutions have more than one ABAI recognized program, each must meet the appropriate program-level standards independently. The recognition status is indicated by calendar year and institutions with recognized programs are listed below by program and degree level. Programs applying for initial recognition or re-recognition are listed further below; however, ABAI cannot make judgment about a program's application process or timelines beyond what is communicated below. See the overview section for descriptions of each tier.

Recognition Applications

ABAI informs the public of the reason(s) for the recognition actions and of the programs applying for recognition. The following information details the type of recognition application and its status.

 

Application Types:

  • Eligibility Request: The program submitted a formal request for a preliminary review to determine eligibility prior to submission of an application for recognition. An eligibility request does not denote recognition status. 
  • Initial Recognition: The program submitted a formal application and fees for recognition (Tiers 2a-4b).
  • Re-Recognition: The recognized program submitted a formal application and fees for re-recognition. The program remains recognized through the re-recognition process.  

Application Statuses:

  • Eligible to Apply: The program has been found eligible to apply for recognition (for Tiers 2a-4b); eligibility does not denote a status of recognition. 
  • Under Review: The program is either 1) in the review meeting process, 2) responding to the reviewers' report, or 3) awaiting decision from ABAI . Programs applying for re-recognition remain recognized through these processes. Programs under review for initial recognition are not recognized until a final decision is granted.
