Theory & Philosophy Conference

Perspectives on Behavioral Complexity

October 28-29, 2024

The Drake Hotel; Chicago, Illinois

Virtual Access Available

Mark your calendars for the 2024 Theory & Philosophy Conference in Chicago! Voted the Best Big City in the United States for the sixth year in a row by Conde Nast Traveler readers, Chicago is an amazing city to enjoy in the fall.

This single-track program spans two days and is organized into thematic clusters under the broad umbrella of complex behavioral phenomena, with an emphasis on how complexity can – and often does – arise from basic behavioral processes.

Each cluster includes three or four 50-minute presentations by cutting-edge scholars representing a range of established and alternative perspectives; the wrap-up speaker for each cluster will serve as synthesizer and discussant for the earlier talks.

Our format, cluster themes, and speaker line-up were selected to maximize opportunities for productive interactions, both within and across the different clusters, and with the audience. A panel discussion on the role and status of theory and philosophy in behavior-analytic training programs will allow for additional audience input. Day 1 will also include a poster session, one of the highlights of the first Theory and Philosophy conference, and another opportunity for creative exchange of ideas among all attendees.

Keynote Speakers

The conference will be held at The Drake Hotel, part of the Historic Hotels of America, located right on the Magnificent Mile. The hotel was host to many well-known guests such as Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana, and the Empress of Japan, as well as Hollywood celebrities, including Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio, Walt Disney, and the entire cast of The Sound of Music. To this date guests can enjoy the popular Afternoon Teatime at the Palm Court.

Virtual registration is available to livestream the presentations at this conference. Both virtual and in-person registration will include access to on-demand video, which will be available shortly after the conclusion of the conference.

Shop till you drop along the Magnificent Mile while sipping hot cider, and enjoy a meal in one of the many restaurants and bars nearby. Just two blocks away is the John Hancock Center, where you can experience Tilt, the city’s highest thrill ride and views. There are many Broadway and musical shows to enjoy, and with just a two-minute walk you can visit the Museum of Contemporary Art.

The city is well connected by two major airports, O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Midway International Airport (MDW). Both airports offer 40 airlines to choose from, providing nonstop service from Chicago to 240 destinations worldwide and 1,100 daily flights.
