Dr. Jane Howard is the co-founder and CEO of Therapeutic Pathways in Modesto, California as well as Professor Emeritus (Psychology) at California State University, Stanislaus, where she taught undergraduate and graduate courses in behavior analysis and child clinical psychology. Dr. Howard graduated from Western Michigan University in 1978, where she received her Ph.D. in Psychology. As the founder of Therapeutic Pathways, Dr. Howard recognized an important need—a state-of-the-art ABA service organization for individuals with autism spectrum disorder—and under her leadership, Therapeutic Pathways now serves as a top clinical and training site and is recognized across the field for its focus on high-quality services and thorough use of the scientist-practitioner model in ongoing clinical practice as well as its systematic approach to staff training and mentorship. Her service to the field is also exemplary. During her tenure on the Board of Directors of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, she oversaw the development of the second set of practice guidelines, which are now the universal standard for services in this area and have been adopted by hundreds of funders. While her other contributions are significant, her published research has been highly influential, with one study—the results of controlled clinical trials that compared intensive ABA and intensive eclectic treatment of autism spectrum disorder—serving as a foundation of the evidence base for effective treatment for children with autism.
